Group 1–4: assigning fixtures to a group (control group)
In SoundSwitch you can assign each fixture to one of four groups, the control group. The “Group 1” to “Group 4” controls make exactly the fixtures of that group brighter or darker, for example just the uplights or just the moving heads. Live mode reads the groups from your project and controls them the same way.
Step by step
- In SoundSwitch, open the project you are working with in Droplit. If you work in the copy “… Show-Designer”, open that one.
- In the patch window, use “Change Control Group” to give each fixture a group from 1 to 4. For example group 1 for the uplights, group 2 for the tubes, group 3 for the moving heads.
- Save the project in SoundSwitch.
- Open the project in Droplit again so live mode knows the new groups.
- In live mode, pull a group fader down. Only the fixtures of that group get darker.
Good to know
- Each fixture belongs to one group at most. Fixtures without a group aren’t affected by any group fader.
- The group faders belong to the overrides, so they sit on top of everything that is running. If a fader is all the way down, its fixtures stay dark whatever look is on.
- On the Control One the groups share two buttons: “GROUP 1” switches the touch strip to group 1 (button lit), a second press to group 2 (button blinks), a third press back to the Autoloop brightness. “GROUP 3” does the same for groups 3 and 4.
- Droplit doesn’t change the groups. It only reads them from your project.
- More on the faders in Overrides: color, strobe, blackout and more and Control One recreated.
Questions
Why does the “Group 2 Intensity” fader do nothing?
No fixture in your project has control group 2. Set it in the SoundSwitch patch.
Do the groups apply on the night too?
Yes. The control group is stored in your SoundSwitch project, and the group controls in SoundSwitch use the same groups. Live mode only reads them from there.
If something goes wrong
- Only some lights are dark: a group fader is down. Push it all the way up again.
- A group fader controls the wrong fixtures: check in the SoundSwitch patch which group the fixtures have. Then open the project in Droplit again.
