Checking a static look in SoundSwitch

A saved static look sits in SoundSwitch’s Performance mode, in the bank and slot Droplit named when you saved.

Step by step

  1. Open the copy “… Show-Designer” in SoundSwitch (see Opening the project in SoundSwitch).
  2. Stay in Performance mode.
  3. Choose “Static Looks” and the bank Droplit named (“Perform → Static Looks → Bank …, slot …”).
  4. Tap the slot. The look is layered on top of whatever is running.
  5. Tap it again to turn it off.

Good to know

  • Banks 2–4 need SoundSwitch 2.11. In older versions you only see bank 1.
  • In SoundSwitch 2.11 several looks can be on at once. For each fixture, the one turned on last wins. Whatever a look doesn’t set comes from the Autoloop below (“Thru”).
  • On Engine units (standalone) there is only bank 1 and only one look at a time. What you need there belongs in bank 1.
  • If you change the look in SoundSwitch, Droplit shows the SoundSwitch version the next time you open it.
  • To try looks without SoundSwitch, use live mode.

Questions

My look only changes the uplights, the rest keeps doing the Autoloop.

That’s right. The look only contains the fixtures you turned on in the Studio.

Can I edit the look in SoundSwitch?

Yes, by right-clicking the look. Careful: “OK” in SoundSwitch’s look editor saves to the file immediately.

If something goes wrong

  • Banks 2–4 are missing: open the project once in SoundSwitch 2.11 and save it. Then all banks are there.
  • The slot is empty: check that the copy is open. If SoundSwitch had the project open while you saved, it overwrote the look. Open another project in SoundSwitch and save again in Droplit.
  • “A look named “…” already exists (bank …, slot …)” when saving in Droplit: give the look a different name at the top of the Studio.
