Why Droplit works in copies
Droplit only writes to copies of your projects. That way the original you perform with stays unchanged, whatever happens while you design.
Step by step
- Save your first show in Droplit. The copy “<project> Show-Designer” is created automatically.
- Check your new shows in SoundSwitch in the copy.
- Once everything is right, use the copy as the project for your next gigs. The original stays as a backup.
Good to know
- SoundSwitch’s file format isn’t officially documented. Droplit reads and writes it itself. It has been tested with SoundSwitch 2.10 and 2.11.
- SoundSwitch writes to the open project by itself, e.g. when you switch projects or quit. If Droplit saved there at the same time, SoundSwitch could overwrite its changes.
- That’s why Droplit only writes to projects with the marker file
.ssgen-kopie. In the web version it asks first. - The copy is a complete SoundSwitch project with all banks, looks, songs and your patch. Your 3D setup from “Fixtures & stage” comes along too.
- In the web version a full copy is made in the shared folder, so your drive needs enough free space.
- If you change something in the original later (e.g. a new song in SoundSwitch), it doesn’t automatically end up in the copy.
Questions
Can I use the copy on the night?
Yes. Check it calmly in SoundSwitch beforehand, ideally on your lights too.
What should I do after a SoundSwitch update?
First test in a copy that everything works as usual. New SoundSwitch versions can change the file format.
Can I work directly in the original?
No. That’s on purpose, so your gig doesn’t depend on a mistake made while designing.
If something goes wrong
- “… ist keine Arbeitskopie – bitte zuerst eine Kopie anlegen” (“… isn't a working copy”): this message comes from the loop generator, which is only available in German. Create a copy there first with “Kopie anlegen”, or save in Droplit, which makes the copy by itself.
- “There isn't enough free disk space on your computer to create a copy of the project. …”: free up disk space and save again.
