Your original stays untouched
The designer never writes to your original. The first time you save, it creates a copy of your project and only saves there from then on.
Step by step
- You design a show and tap “Save to SoundSwitch”.
- If the project isn't a copy yet, the designer creates the copy “<project> Show-Designer” in your SoundSwitch folder and tells you: “To keep your original safe, we made a copy: …”
- The show lands in the copy. All your other shows go there too.
- Open the copy in SoundSwitch to see and play your new shows.
Good to know
- The copy takes your existing shows, your patch and your 3D setup along.
- If you open the original in the designer later, it switches to the copy by itself.
- Don't save while SoundSwitch has the same project open. Otherwise SoundSwitch would overwrite your new show the next time it saves. Briefly open another project there or quit SoundSwitch.
- The web version can't see which project SoundSwitch has open. Keep an eye on this yourself there.
- The designer never controls spark machines or haze. You keep triggering them in SoundSwitch.
- The SoundSwitch file format isn't officially documented. Test new shows before using them live, especially after a SoundSwitch update.
Questions
I can't find my show in SoundSwitch.
You probably still have the original open. Open the copy “<project> Show-Designer” in SoundSwitch.
Can I still work in the original?
No. The designer only writes to copies. If you want the copy to be your main project, just keep working with the copy in SoundSwitch.
Does the copy take up a lot of space?
It's a full copy of your project.
If something goes wrong
- “Please switch projects in SoundSwitch first”: Open another project in SoundSwitch (or quit SoundSwitch) and tap “Save to SoundSwitch” again.
- “There isn't enough free disk space on your computer to create a copy of the project. Please free up some space and save again.”: Free up space on the drive and save again.
