Sharing your SoundSwitch folder or a project
In the web version, the designer works directly with your SoundSwitch projects. To do that, you share them with the browser once: either the whole folder with your projects or just a single project. Nothing gets uploaded.
Step by step: the whole folder (recommended)
- In the Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows), open the folder that holds your
.ssprojprojects. Usually that's Music → SoundSwitch. - Drag this folder onto the box. Or tap “Choose folder” and pick it in the dialog.

Drag the folder in or select it. - The browser asks whether the page may edit files in this folder. Allow it.
- The start page now shows all your projects. Tap one.
Step by step: just one project
- Drag your project's
.ssprojfolder onto the box. Or tap “Open a single project” and pick the.ssprojfolder in the dialog. - Allow the browser to edit the files.
- The project opens right away. On the start page it's marked “opened on its own”.
- The first time you save, the designer asks “Where should the copy go?”. Tap “Choose folder …” and ideally pick the folder your original is in. That's where it creates the copy “<project> Show-Designer”.
Good to know
- With the whole folder you see all your projects and don't have to choose anything when saving. A single project is handy when it sits somewhere else (e.g. in a subfolder or on a USB stick).
- You can combine both: share a folder and also open single projects from elsewhere.
- Either way your original stays untouched. We always save into a copy.
- The browser remembers what you shared. If it asks again after a restart, tap “Allow “SoundSwitch” again” (it shows the name of your folder). Projects opened on their own then appear under “Recently opened on their own” – tap one to allow access again.
- The × on a card removes a project opened on its own from the list. The project itself stays unchanged.
- Reading and writing only happens in what you shared. Your projects and your music don't leave your computer.
- You share once on every computer. The permission belongs to the browser, not to your account.
Questions
In the Finder under Music → SoundSwitch. If you keep your projects somewhere else, use the folder that contains the .ssproj folders.
Yes. On the start page, tap “Choose folder” and choose the new folder.
Into the folder you choose the first time you save. If a designer copy of this project is already there, the designer uses it instead of creating a second one. After saving, the dialog tells you which folder the copy is in.
When you save, the designer creates a copy of your project and writes your show into it. For that it needs write access.
If something goes wrong
- “Please drop in a folder, not a single file.”: You caught a file. Drag in the folder or the
.ssprojfolder. - ““…” isn’t a SoundSwitch project. A project is a folder whose name ends in .ssproj.”: with “Open a single project” you picked a folder without projects. Choose the
.ssprojfolder. - ““…” isn’t a complete SoundSwitch project – the file SoundSwitchVenues.bin is missing.”: open the project in SoundSwitch once, save it and try again.
- “That’s a project. Choose the folder the copy should go into …”: at “Where should the copy go?” you picked the project itself. Go up one level in the dialog and choose the folder above it.
- “Without a folder for the copy nothing is saved – your original stays unchanged.”: you cancelled “Where should the copy go?”. Tap “Save to SoundSwitch” again and choose a folder.
- “This doesn’t work without access to the folder – please allow editing.”: You declined the browser's prompt. Try again and allow access.
- “Dragging only works in Chrome or Edge – please use “Choose folder”.”: Tap “Choose folder” or “Open a single project”, or switch to Chrome or Edge.
- “No SoundSwitch projects found”: There are no
.ssprojprojects in the chosen folder. Use the folder where SoundSwitch saves your projects.
