Marking up and redacting a screenshot

A screenshot often says more than a long description. In the feedback panel you capture it with one click, point at the spot with a box or an arrow and redact anything nobody should see.

Four tools for marking and redacting.
Four tools for marking and redacting.

Step by step

  1. Tap “Take screenshot”. The panel hides for a moment, the page behind it is captured and appears as a preview.
  2. Tap the preview or “Mark up”. The image opens large.
  3. Choose a tool at the top:
    • “Box” draws a red rectangle around the spot.
    • “Arrow” points from where you start to the spot.
    • “Pen” draws freehand.
    • “Redact” puts a black bar over personal details.
  4. Drag across the image with your mouse or finger. “Undo” (or ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z) removes the last mark, “Clear all” removes all of them.
Simply drag across the image with mouse or finger.
  5. Tap “Done”. The preview now shows how many marks it has.

Good to know

  • Instead of capturing, you can use your own image: “Choose image”, drag an image into the box, or paste it with ⌘V / Ctrl+V.
  • Large images are scaled down to at most 2400 pixels wide before sending.
  • “Retake” replaces the image, “Remove” sends the report without an image.
  • The capture only shows the page, not your whole screen or other programs.

Questions

Why does the screenshot look slightly different?

The quick capture redraws the page itself. Some effects (blur, gradients) get lost. Tap “Capture exactly (browser will ask)” below the image. Chrome and Edge then ask whether they may capture this tab, and “Share” gives you a pixel-perfect image.

Is the image kept if I close the panel?

No. Text and email are kept as a draft, the image isn't.

If something goes wrong

  • “The page couldn't be captured directly”: Use the exact capture, or take a screenshot with your computer (⇧⌘4 on a Mac, Win+Shift+S on Windows) and paste it with ⌘V / Ctrl+V.
  • The 3D view is black in the image: Use the exact capture.
