Designing a Static Look

A Static Look is a fixed lighting mood for a special moment, such as the first dance, a speech or the cake. In the Studio you set every fixture group – or every single fixture – with everything it can do: intensity, color, strobe, position, movement (circle, figure 8 …), gobo, rotation, prism, focus, zoom and all other channels. On top of that come fade in and fade out times for the whole look.

Set how a group takes part in the look.

Step by step

  1. Tap a look mood on the right, e.g. “First dance” or “Speech & cake”. It sets all groups to match.
  2. Below “Your lights in this look”, tap a fixture group, e.g. “Moving Heads”. The settings panel opens below it while the preview stays large.
  3. Choose at the top how the group takes part in the look: Thru (the look leaves it alone), Off (dark) or On.
  4. Set intensity, color, strobe and, for moving heads, the position. “Show where the light lands” shows every position from above.
  5. Under Movement, tap a shape – circle, scan, oval, figure 8, square or triple 8 (horizontal or vertical) – and set speed, size and direction: forward or backward (SoundSwitch calls this “Reverse”). Below that, choose the phase: together (all in sync, like in SoundSwitch), wave (one after another) or opposite.

  6. Under Gobo, prism & more, tap a gobo image, plus “Gobo rotating”, prism, focus, zoom and so on. The preview shows the gobo right away.
  7. To change single fixtures only, tap their numbers at the top of the panel (⌘/Ctrl = several) or click the fixture in the 3D preview.
  8. Below the fixture list, Fade in and out sets how softly the look comes and goes (up to 30 s).
  9. Tap “Done”, then “Save to SoundSwitch”.
